Nesma High Training Institute or NHTI, has been designated by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) as an official exam center for the new “Professional Verification” program set to begin operations in July. The program, which covers over 1,000 different professions, requires all foreign skilled workers both abroad and domestic to verify their skills by passing an examination. The goal of the program is to regulate the labor market in Saudi Arabia, raise the overall level of skill and provide job opportunities for skilled Saudi workers.

An announced that the consortium led by Masdar and EDF Renewables, both global leaders in renewable energy, and Nesma Company, has reached financial close on a 300 MW utility-scale PV Solar Power plant in Jeddah and is starting construction.

The Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy awarded the consortium the 300 MW Jeddah project after it had submitted the most cost-competitive bid.

Alongside the 400 MW Dumat al Jandal wind power farm currently under construction in the North of the Kingdom.

The Renewable Energy Project Development Office of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy has awarded a 300 MW solar power plant project to a consortium including Nesma Renewable Energy (NRE), Masdar and EDF Renewables.

The plant will utilize the latest photovoltaics technology with bifacial solar modules that capture light from both sides of the panels, single-axis solar tracking and state-of-the-art robots that will clean the solar modules.

The photovoltaic project complements the 400 MW Dumat al Jandal wind power farm currently under construction in the north of the Kingdom.

Consortium partner EDF Renewables is a subsidiary of the French utility EDF Group. Masdar is a renewable energy company based in Abu Dhabi, UAE and operating in over 30 countries.

Construction has already begun on the project which is located in Third Jeddah Industrial City 50 km southeast of Jeddah on land roughly equivalent in size to 1000 football fields. Operation is expected to begin in 2022.

As one of its social responsibility initiatives, Nesma & Partners Contracting Co. has again signed an agreement to provide digital media sponsorship of Tarmeem’s home restoration program. The agreement was signed under the patronage of Deputy Prince of the Eastern Province His Royal Highness Prince Ahmed bin Fahd bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. Tarmeem is one of the first associations in the Kingdom licensed to restore the homes of underprivileged families in the Eastern Province and hopes to benefit 20 families in 2021.

Nesma & Partners has completed the royal terminal apron extension at the King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh. The project, awarded by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, was delivered 40 days early despite COVID-19 related challenges such as curfews and delays due to canceled flights. By leveraging its network and resources, Nesma & Partners was able to obtain special work permits and mitigate the effects of supply shortages.

A partnership between Nesma Water & Energy and Bahrain’s Almoayyed Contracting Group has secured a water transmission project for a South Bahrain (Madinat Khalifa) housing development.

The scope of work includes a turnkey contract package covering the water distribution station and the associated transmission pipeline works for the housing development. This includes the construction of two reinforced cement concrete storage tanks with a combined storage of at least ten million gallons and a fully automated distribution pumping station of up to 10 million gallons per day capacity.

The Industrial & Ventures Division has been awarded a new project at the Red Sea Airport by TRSDC for the supply, installation, testing & commissioning of navigational aid systems (NAVAIDs) including an instrument landing system and DVOR navigational aid.

Nesma United celebrated the opening of Chowking’s newest branch, located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Chowking combines Western fast food service style with Chinese food. The first restaurant in Saudi Arabia opened its doors in 2016 marking the fifth GCC country for Chowking, with 28 restaurants throughout the region.

Nesma Telecom & Technology (NT&T) was awarded a fixed line network infrastructure project in NEOM.

NT&T’s scope of work includes the network's design, implementation, operation & maintenance services.

Nesma Holding has launched the “Nesma Virtual Leadership Program,” containing a series of online workshops for Nesma employees across the group.

The first workshop, which took place earlier, focused on data strategies, attracted 111 participants.

The workshop was delivered by world-class professors, Ikhlaq Sidhu, Chief Scientist and Founding Director of University of California Berkeley's Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology, and Paris de l”Etraz, Professor of Entrepreneurship IE Business School and Managing Director of IE Venture Lab.

Nesma & Partners successfully and safely completed the Royal Terminal

Apron Extension at the King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh thanks to effective and

consorted efforts to navigate requirements put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

 The project, awarded by the General Authority of Civil Aviation, was delivered 40 days earlier

than originally planned despite challenges and risks imposed by COVID-19.

 The latter included enforcement of curfew hours, a consequent delayed access of manpower

and resources to the site, and late arrivals of specialized technicians and suppliers for special

systems from outside the Kingdom.

 However, with the right mitigation plans, Nesma & Partners was able to issue work permits to

all the staff and subcontractors during the curfew to limit any potential delays. It also

outsourced and allocated shortages of some aggregates by resorting to its diverse network of

resources in the Kingdom. Lastly, with the support of the Client, the company was able to issue

the delayed specialized technicians and suppliers unique entry permits in compliance with the

Ministry of Health’s regulations and preventive measures.

Nesma Trading has successfully completed work for Binzagr Company on a project that is the largest integrated logistics center in Saudi Arabia.

Operations at the center began in the Industrial Valley in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).

The center is one of the largest in the region, with an area of 97,000 square meters and a capacity of more than 110,000 pallets for storing medical and food products.

It includes 50-meter high shelves that operate automatically with the latest technologies for storing and rearranging goods, in addition to 56 gates to receive all types of trucks, and enough parking space to facilitate 180 trucks’ loading and unloading at the same time.

Nesma Water & Energy was awarded a project by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to work on the sewage treatment plant of 125,000 M3/ capacity and the main pumping station in Tabuk city.

Nesma Holding has launched a new identity for Nesma Embroidery, one of Nesma’s social responsibility initiatives that is focused on creating job opportunities for women.

 Nesma Embroidery and Tailoring center’s name has been changed to Namat, as part of a development plan aimed at expanding the scope of the initiative and its desired impact.

 Namat was established in 2009 (under the name of Nesma Embroidery and Tailoring) as a non-profit institution specializing in the production of clothing, to achieve a greater social benefit by employing women in need of work.

From one location in Jeddah, and in partnership with the Deaf Club, the initiative started with 40 women with hearing impairment and then expanded to Khulais Governorate in Makkah region, where it was agreed with Albir Society to establish a local presence for the project there.

In 2017, an agreement was reached with Saudi Aramco and Al-Rahmah Charitable Medical Society to establish a center in the Eastern Province called Qetan, and in the following year, Nesma Holding inaugurated the initiative’s fourth center in Thuwal Governorate, in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. Namat offers its products and services to all companies in the private and public sectors with all their different needs in terms of formal outfits and uniforms. It also provides its services in exclusive production lines of local designers.

 The new identity comes after signing an agreement with the Emirate of Makkah region to expand the scope of the project in the governorates of the region, where the initiative aims to replicate the model to serve a larger number of Saudi villages and integrate them into the entity of the national economy, in addition to train and employ women to work in the sewing and embroidery fields. Namat will play the operational role in all centers, while partners from the private and public sectors will establish and support the centers.

A consortium made up of Nesma & Partners and Almabani General Contractors was awarded the largest value contract to date by the Red Sea Development Company, to work on the infrastructure of the Red Sea Development Project’s International Airport.

Nesma & Partners and Almabani General Contractors will work on the infrastructure of a 3,700 meter runway, a seaplane runway and parallel & link taxiways. Additionally, the two companies will handle pavement works, the airport’s aeronautical navigational aids, aerodrome ground lighting, airside utilities, in addition to all roads and associated buildings.

The Red Sea Airport will serve an estimated one million tourists per year catering to both domestic and international flights, as the first phase of the Red Sea Project will provide 3,000 luxurious hotel rooms across five islands and two inland sites.

Forbes Middle East revealed its list of the 100 most powerful Arab family businesses in the Middle East in 2020.
