Yanbu 4 Project Wins Desalination Project of the Year 2024
Nov 2024Yanbu International Water Company, a subsidiary of Nesma Co., has won the Desalination Project of the Year 2024 award from MEED, the leading business intelligence provider in the Middle East and North Africa. This award recognizes projects that excel in innovation, sustainability and social impact.
The project is a collaboration between ENGIE, Nesma, and MOWAH. It involves the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a seawater desalination plant in Yanbu Governorate, with a production capacity of 450,000 cubic meters per day and a total cost of SAR 3.3 billion.
This project is the first dual-purpose desalination and water transmission project in the Kingdom developed through a public-private partnership model. It includes facilities for storing potable water sufficient for two operational days, as well as electrical infrastructure, serving the water needs of the Makkah and Madinah regions.
The MEED Projects Awards, established in 2007, are prestigious accolades that celebrate excellence in the projects sector across the Middle East and North Africa. Projects undergo a rigorous evaluation process by an independent panel of judges based on criteria such as engineering excellence, technological innovation, sustainability and societal benefit.

Nesma Company Among the Developers of the Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project
Nov 2024The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced the selection of a consortium comprising Nesma CO., Aljomaih Energy and Water Company and Buhur for Investment as the preferred developer for the Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project. The project will be executed under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model for a period of 35 years, starting from the expected commercial operation date in the first quarter of 2029.
This project is the first of its kind in the Kingdom to connect the Eastern and Qassim Provinces, aiming to supply potable, desalinated water through pipelines stretching 587 kilometers with a transmission capacity of 650,000 cubic meters per day, and the ability to pump water in both directions. The project also includes water storage facilities with a total capacity of 1,634,500 cubic meters, ensuring a continuous and reliable supply of drinking water in the region.
This initiative aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which focus on the sustainable development of water resources and the provision of high-quality, affordable water services.

Nesma United Industries Shura Island Villas Project
Aug 2024Nesma United Industries has signed a contract with Red Sea Global (owned by the Kingdom’s Public Investment Fund) to provide hard and soft landscaping for the Shura Golf Villas and ancillary buildings. The landscaping is integral to developing sustainable tourism on Shura Island.
The project consists of five landscaping clusters utilizing a “smart” irrigation system and is expected to take seven months for completion. The scope of work includes planting over 100k plants provided by the client and supplying furniture, natural stone, a wooden deck and the irrigation system.
The dolphin-shaped Shura Island which is connected to the mainland by bridge, hosts luxury resorts that are set to begin opening this year. The world’s fourth largest barrier reef system surrounds the archipelago that includes Shura Island.

Aug 2024The Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, conducted an inspection and tour of Makkah Bus lines operated by Modern Bus Co. which included a bus ride to the central operations facilities. The Deputy Governor was briefed on the advanced technologies employed in Makkah buses and operations.
So far, Modern Bus has transported over 161 million passengers on its 400 buses and 12 routes traversing Makkah.
The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites has won two awards for the Makkah Bus project, an operation which supports the Vision 2030 pillars of a vibrant society and a thriving economy.

Commercial operation launch of the Independent Water Project in Jubail 3B
Jul 2024The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced the commercial operation launch of the Independent Water Project in Jubail 3B (IWP).
The project, completed by Nesma Water and Energy in partnership with Al Ajlan and the French energy giant Engie, will contribute to the production of 570,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day. This will be achieved through reverse osmosis technology to meet the needs of two million residents in Riyadh and Al-Qassim. The project is implemented under a 25-year build, own, operate (BOO) contract with a value of $693m.
The key features of the project include advanced water desalination capabilities, storage tanks with sufficient capacity for one day's production, and an internal solar energy system that reduces reliance on the national electricity grid.

Jul 2024NEOM has contracted with Nesma United Industries (NUI) for a hardscape and softscape project near Al Bedaa, west of Bajdah. The four-month project also includes a follow-up, 12-month maintenance contract. NUI’s Landscaping Division will plant native trees, shrubs and grasses provided by the client as part of NEOM’s sustainable design. Covering 500 hectares, the 1.5 million plants will consist of 55% trees, 25% shrubs and 20% grasses. NUI will also design and install an irrigation system to include tanks, pumps and generators. NEOM is a 26,500 km2 area in northwest Saudi Arabia that is home to sustainable, forward-thinking developments set to transform the Kingdom and inspire the world.

Jun 2024Namma Cargo lifted and moved two oil and gas rigs and four camps for the Arabian Drilling company. The weight of each rig is 2,245 Metric Ton with a total of 201 packages. 220 trailers were used to transport the rigs and camps from Dammam seaport to Sakaka and Haradth. Namma Cargo successfully completed the customs clearance the transportation within the KPI.

NW&E Bahraini Water Plant Receives Royal Inauguration
May 2024The Khalifa City Water Distribution Station in Bahrain, constructed by Nesma Water & Energy and Al Moayyed Contracting, was inaugurated in an April 30th ceremony attended by Bahraini and Saudi VIPs including Nesma Water & Energy CEO Mahmoud Fallatah and COO Ashraf Radwan, as well as Al Moayyed Contracting CEO Hala Al Moayyed. The SAR 134 million project is one of many in Bahrain funded by the Saudi Development Fund (SFD).
As one of the celebrations of Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Silver Jubilee, the inauguration was led by Bahrain’s Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and attended by Shaikh Yasser Ibrahim Al Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs as well as Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) president. The inauguration was broadcast on both Bahraini and Saudi media. The CEO of the SFD, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, also spoke, lauding the importance of the water station as a sustainable development project funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Nesma Infrastructure & Technology Wins SEC Project
Apr 2024Nesma Infrastructure and Technology (NIT) has signed a contract valued at around SAR 400 million with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to construct the Al Jazeera Royal Palace Substation in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia.
The scope of work for this fast-track project includes engineering, procurement, construction, testing & commissioning and energizing the
transmission substation along with its connection to the national grid through around 45 km of overhead transmission lines and underground power cables.
This turnkey project is set to be delivered within 17 months.

Nesma United Industries Delivers Qiddiya Project
Apr 2024In January, Nesma United Industries (NUI) delivered a SAR 287 million turnkey project in Qiddiya that involved engineering, procurement and construction. The scope of work entailed a potable water pumping plant yielding up to 7,500 m3 daily production, irrigation water pumping plant, sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 1,500 m3 daily, district cooling plant with a cooling load of 12,490 tons daily, a six km corridor trench with piping, medium voltage cables & ICT networks and a 1.8 km culvert tunnel network of storm & sewage piping.
The water pumping plant is permanent whereas the other utilities serve as temporary works to be replaced in two years. This scope of work normally would take around 18 months to complete; however, NUI was able to deliver the project in under six months.
One aspect of Vision 2030 is to enhance the quality of life experienced by the Kingdom’s visitors and residents. Qiddiya, set to be one of the answers to that challenge, is designed to be a cultural, sports and entertainment hub harnessing the power of play.

Apr 2024In February, leading French water company Saur visited Nesma Water & Energy (NW&E) to discuss opportunities for collaboration. The two teams considered the capabilities and expertise of their respective companies then signed an MOU to collaborate on future projects. Representatives from both companies will soon team up to analyze the large number of upcoming contracts and identify those with the greatest potential for a successful bid.
Both delegations consisted of top executives with Nesma being represented by President Faisal Alturki, Chairman Fouad Alsherebi and NW&E CEO Mahmoud Fallatah along with NW&E’s CIO, Legal Director and PPP Financing Officer.
Saur has 90 years’ experience in the water sector and has delivered key projects in the Saudi market.

Nesma United Industries Wins Sheybarah Hotel Project
Mar 2024Nesma United Industries has been awarded a SAR 39M EPC communications and digital infrastructure project at Sheybarah South Hotel #10 on Sheybarah Island in the Red Sea. The hotel consists of 73 villas constructed in pods, each affording a unique ocean and reef experience.
The scope of work includes communications networks, audio visual, WIFI, CCTV and digital security installation. The 13-month contract, expected to finish in October, 2024 offers unique challenges due to the one-hour ferry time required to reach the island in order to bring workers and materials.

Nesma Water & Energy PPP Plants Commence Commercial Production
Mar 2024The Nesma Water & Energy consortium public-private partnership (PPP) projects have both begun commercial water production. Both projects are reverse-osmosis desalination water plants developed for the Saudi Water Partnership Company. With the commencement of production, these two projects also begin their 25-year operations and water purchase contracts.
Located in Al Rais, Al-Madinah province, the SAR 3.29B Yanbu 4 independent water plant began its commercial production ahead of schedule. This first-of-its-kind project has a daily capacity of 450,000 m3 and uses a 10MW solar power plant to provide energy efficiency. Nesma has a 30% stake in the consortium with Engie and Mowah. The EPC contractor is Doosan.
The SAR 2.6B Jubail 3B project utilizes a 61MW solar array and was completed in just 28 months. The plant can produce around 570,000 m3 of potable water daily for the cities of Jubail and Dammam. Nesma also has a 30% stake in this consortium with Engie and Al-Ajlan working with EPC contractors Acciona, Sepco III and Power Construction Corp.
